Building a Connected Early Childhood System in Ravalli County
Our Vision
We envision a future where every family in our community is empowered to thrive in a changing world. Through safe, nurturing educational programming, we build respectful relationships and foster a stronger, more inclusive community rooted in growth, resilience, and shared success.
Our Mission
To empower children and families within a secure respectful, and celebratory learning environment, while strengthening our wider community.
Our Approach
Our systems-based approach focuses on prevention—supporting families early, stabilizing providers, and aligning systems so resources are used efficiently and equitably. This long-term commitment is essential to creating lasting change.
The Four Domains of BELN
BELN strengthens early childhood in Ravalli County through four interconnected domains that work together to support children, families, educators, and the community.
Our programs—including Evergreen Saplings, Evergreen Kids Corner Preschool, Evergreen Wanderers, and Summer Explorers—serve as both high-quality learning environments and learning laboratories. They allow us to meet immediate community needs while staying connected to the lived experiences of families and educators, shaping everything from professional development to advocacy.
Families are the primary drivers of early childhood development. BELN provides one-on-one support, workshops, and community-based activities, working alongside families to reduce barriers, connect resources, and ensure they feel supported rather than judged.
Quality care starts with stable, supported educators. We provide coaching, professional development, Communities of Practice, and systems navigation to help providers meet state standards, strengthen programs, and focus on children instead of constant crisis management. Every year, we bring together industry experts and educators at our Early Childhood Symposium and Early Childhood Summit to inspire learning, collaboration, and innovation.
Beyond individual programs, BELN builds coordinated systems through coalition leadership, shared infrastructure, and cross-sector partnerships. This includes the Bitterroot Early Childhood Coalition, a county-wide waitlist portal, and the Ravalli Child Care Advantage—investing in child care as vital community infrastructure.

Together, these four domains create an integrated, place-based approach that strengthens both individuals and the broader early childhood ecosystem.
Our Values
Place-Based Education
An instructional approach that emphasizes using the local environment, community, and culture as a context for learning. It seeks to connect educational experiences to the immediate surroundings of students, making learning more relevant, meaningful, and engaging.
Family First
A philosophy and practice that prioritizes the active involvement, collaboration, and support of families in the educational journey of their children. It emphasizes the recognition of families as essential partners in a child’s learning and development.
Advocacy
The active promotion and support of policies, practices, and initiatives that enhance the well-being, rights, and development of young children. Early childhood advocacy involves efforts to influence decision-makers, policymakers, and the public to prioritize and invest in high-quality early childhood education, care, and comprehensive services.
Adaptive Work for Lasting Systems Change
BELN’s work is grounded in continuous learning, adapting alongside families, educators, and partners as community needs evolve. This flexibility allows us to meet immediate needs while building lasting systems—supporting individuals, strengthening infrastructure, and remaining accountable to the community we serve.
